The Project

The Seattle International Film Festival hired me to be their Festival Marketing Copywriter for their special 50th anniversary festival. The theme of SIFF24 was “SIFFTY Years of Surprising Cinema,” capturing the excitement, delight, mystery, and even fear that films have surprised Seattle audiences with at SIFF screenings since the organization’s inception in 1976.
I wrote copy for landing pages, product descriptions, email newsletters, blog posts, and social media posts, as well as copyedited writing from other departments.
The Work
Closing Night Event Landing Page
Keep the party going till the very end! We’ve planned some fabulous festivities to wrap the 50th Seattle International Film Festival, and you’re invited.
Commence the revelry with us at a screening of Sing Sing at SIFF Cinema Downtown followed by our 50th birthday bash at MOHAI, where you’ll enjoy complimentary drinks and bites as you help set SIFF up for another 50 years of Surprising Cinema by playing fundraising games to win prizes.
At MOHAI, we’ll be hosting a raffle and a silent auction of extraordinary experiences and goodies. Raffle tickets will go for $100 each and enter you to win a pair of round-trip business class tickets from Seattle to London from Virgin Atlantic (winner called at 10:30pm). See auction highlights below; bidding open now!
Be sure to dress up in your best archival SIFF attire because we’re giving a special prize to the person wearing the oldest piece of SIFF gear. Cheers to one last hurrah!
June Squibb Tribute Event Blog Post (excerpt)
Some actors have cultivated such skill in their craft that their magnetism shines through no matter the size of their role. June Squibb unequivocally ranks among this upper echelon of performers. See five roles that made SIFF fall in love with June Squibb, and get ready to see Squibb herself at our Festival Opening Night on May 9, as well as at her Honoree Brunch and Tribute Event on May 11.
5. Mrs. Sturak, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead (dir. Wade Allain–Marcus 2024)
In this BET+ remake of the 1991 classic, we get to see June Squibb fire a pistol into the air as a way to get children’s attention, throw water in kids’ faces, and play dead covered head–to–toe in an eerie lavender–blue body paint. Brava!
…
1. Thelma, Thelma (dir. Josh Margolin, 2024)
We’re opening this year’s Festival with the comedy–action flick Thelma because watching Squibb do her own stunts at 93 years old in her first leading film role is a complete joy to watch.
Love June Squibb as much as we do? Meet the wonderful, utterly hilarious actor behind these amazing cinematic moments at a special Honoree Brunch at Palace Kitchen May 11!
